During this initial call, we'll discuss the presenting issues and information regarding with what you are seeking help. I will answer any questions you have about the therapy process, my specialties, and my treatment modalities, as well as any logistical questions.
It is important that you vet potential therapists, do your research and ask questions. This phone call is a time for us to get a feel for each other and to determine if we think it would be a good fit. We could schedule a session at that time, pending availability.
Individual therapy is a 1:1 treatment conducted with one client and one clinician, but it can include another person on occasion when relevant to an individual’s treatment. It’s wonderful if you have people in your life that you feel comfortable with which to be open. However, friends and family may tell you what you want to hear. A therapist will have an objective viewpoint that can help you find your blind spots. We develop an attunement to and a relationship with our clients, what author Lori Gottlieb calls “the music beneath the lyrics.” The magic of therapy occurs through human connection, not solo exploration. You have the answers inside you, and I can help you unlock those truths.
Develop connections with other people and not feel so lonely and isolated.
Learn why they can feel so overwhelmed over the seemingly ‘small stuff.’
Stop feeling hopeless about the future and realize purpose and meaning in their life.
End nightmares, flashbacks, and feeling disconnected from their bodies and the world around them.
My niche is the treatment of Complex Trauma, Dissociative Disorders, and Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). Couples and family therapy focuses on the improvement of interpersonal relationships. Couples consist of people that love each other and have committed to each other. A family unit can consist of many different combinations of loved ones, including chosen family members. Therapists help couples and family members understand past and current dynamics that have contributed to problematic behaviors and communication by exploring the ways boundaries and structures can impact day-to-day life. We look at identifying and shifting the themes; the patterns of relating and addressing conflict, which is greatly impacted by social, cultural, racial, religious, political, sexual and socioeconomic factors.
Repair and strengthen strained relationships between partners and family members.
Learn how to best support each other when dealing with trauma, dissociation, acute or chronic illness, and/or other mental health issues.
Implement healthy boundaries and limit setting with problematic behaviors, including addiction.
Coping with sudden changes like death and grief, unemployment, divorce, moving, etc.
Joining a group of strangers can sound very intimidating at first, but group therapy can provide numerous benefits that individual therapy may not. Groups can act as a support network and a sounding board. Talking and listening to others with diverse backgrounds and personalities can help to put your problems in perspective. By seeing how other people tackle problems and make changes, you can discover a whole range of strategies for facing your own concerns.
Many people experience mental health difficulties, but few speak openly about them to people they don't know well. Oftentimes, you may feel like you are the only one struggling — but you're not. It can be a relief to hear others discuss what they're going through and realize you're not alone. When one group member is vulnerable, it can be contagious and result in a profound sense of acceptance and self-acceptance.
I am a Relational Psychotherapist, which is based on the idea that relationships are essential to a person’s emotional well-being. It is common for relationship patterns outside of the therapy room to show up in the therapy room, which gives us an opportunity to explore those patterns and to practice new ways of relating and thinking. Our client-therapist relationship is vital to this process. When we are able to forge a strong, collaborative relationship based on trust, authenticity, and empathy, it can serve as a model for other relationships.

In order to gain an even greater perspective on your current dilemma, it is very important to collaborate with some of your current mental health/health care professionals, such as an individual or family therapist, psychiatrist, or physician.
Referrals can also be provided for additional professionals necessary in establishing a cohesive and tailored team approach for each client.

Parents and adolescents in the same family can both be treated (at my discretion); however, due to confidentiality issues, each client will need their own scheduled appointment time.
For family/couples therapy, each person will initially be seen separately before joint family/couples therapy sessions begin.

I am considered an “out of network” provider. Many insurance plans, particularly PPO-based plans, will reimburse a portion of fees paid to “out-of-network” providers. You will be provided with all of the documentation you will need to file on your own.
In order to focus on the well-being of my clients, I do not work directly with insurance companies. It’s more important to provide you with the best possible treatment that is not limited in duration, frequency, or application by third parties. Additionally, operating on a self-pay system maintains absolute confidentiality of my clients and therapy records and avoids a diagnosis when not applicable.
Yes, my office has a strict cancellation policy. You will be charged in full for the cost of the missed appointment if you do not give at least a 48-hour advanced notice. Allowances can be made under specific situations as outlined in my Practice Policies.
If you are late for a session, your session will still need to end on time. If you arrive for your scheduled session later than 30 minutes, your session will be forfeited. Therapeutic work is not conducive to a 20-minute session. We can always begin the session over the phone and continue in person once you arrive.
